About Steve

Me and my
shoes.
I have enjoyed running for many years, doing my first marathon in
1993 - the London Marathon. Since then I have completed appoximately 140
marathons, usually managing to squeeze in a long weekend in some great cities
of the world - Paris, New York, Berlin, Seville, Madrid, Boston, Dublin and
Budapest. I've also done the Tough Guy twice and the Great North Run 7
times.
Having heard about the legendary Marathon des Sables I entered
the 1999 edition, became hooked on deserts and did it again in 2001, 2002 and
2005. I have since competed in many more desert events and in 2007 did my
second
Libyan
Challenge and the
Gobi
March in China.
Planned events for 2008 are the Marathon des Sables
(again) and the White Desert in Egypt.
With the rest of my
Sandblasters team we are raising
£1,000,000 for our chosen charities
Small Steps School for Parents
and
Signpost Young
Carers.
Here's our
Justgiving site if you wish
to help us along.
As part of my training and preparation for the first
Marathon des Sables in 1999 I established a small, friendly training run with
Anthony Taylor. I've organised it every year since and the
Thames Meander is now the premier
training run in Europe for the MdS. It is also one of the most popular double
marathon ultra-events in the UK.
Anthony, incidentally, now organises
the
Ridgeway
Challenge every August; 85 miles along a 5,000 year old
trackway.
I'm happily married to Kathy and we live in
Spitalfields. This is a
wonderfully historic part of London, originally used by wealthy Romans as a
burial ground; more recently it is where Jack the Ripper saw off some of his
victims.
I'm a director of
Litchfield Consultants which I founded
in 1998. We're project managers specialising in designing and building data
centres and dealer rooms and have worked with many of the major banks and
financial institutions in the City of London.
